Stilmas PSG – DTS Pure Steam Generators are designed and constructed according to the latest International Pharmacopeias amd the cGMP FDA. They are capable of solving any problem of sterilisation of pharmaceutical equipment and process lines. The system is composed by two parallel bodies: the heat exchanger and the evaporator – decontamination column. Feed water is fed to the decontamination column (main body), while industrial steam is fed to the heat exchanger, shell side. Industrial steam heats the feed water to evaporation temperature, so creating a strong circulation inside the two bodies. The steam develops in the evaporator: steam low velocity and the height of the decontamination column eliminate any possible impure water droplets entrainment. A pressure transducer, installed in the evaporator, controls the feed of industrial steam to the heat exchanger, thus granting constant pressure of the produced pure steam. The teedwater is pre-heated in the exchanger E009, by steam condensation coming trom the last column, and in the pre-heaters F004-F001 by condensate produced in every effect.
The teedwater evaporates partially in the first column (E001) as heated by industriai steam.
The industriai steam passes through the pre-heater F001 and is drained by steam trap ST001.
The produced pure steam trom the top and the water not evaporateci trom the bottom
1 -pass to the tollowing effect, where the process is repeated at lower pressure and temperature.
The distillate produced by pure steam condensation goes to the pre-heater F002. The process is repeated for all columns in the same way.
The steam produced in the last effect is condensateci and cooled together with the distillate coming from pre-heaters in the exchangers E009 and E01O, by teed and cooling water.
1 - SINGLE EFFECT RUNNING DESCRlBTION
Conveyed by main pipe in the upper paq ot column, the teedwater goes down through the exchanger tube side and evaporates as heated by industriai steam coming from the shell side.
(The water I steam mixture is conveyed in the lower part ot column by main tunnel, where
the steam is split trom the water. The water lies on bottom and goes out trom gate B; the steam goes up at the outside ot tunnel and goes out trom gate F.
The condensate passes in the pre-heater shell side and goes out trom the gate G; the teedwater goes into the gate C and goes out trom gate D.
The distillate goes out at 95°C as indicateci in the drawing no. 0969/3; for the correct running of the plant it is necessary that the storage tank and the connecting piping are at a lower height.
The conductivity changes from 0.25 to 1 uS / cm., depending on feedwater quality.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The design of STILMAS PSG-DTS pure steam generators is based on the technology of the radiator. The system consists of two parallel bodies: the heat exchanger and the evaporator/decontamination column. The feed water is fed to the decontamination column (main body) while the industrial steam is fed to the supporting side of the heat exchanger. Industrial steam heats the feed water to the evaporation temperature, creating a strong circulation within the two bodies.
The Steam develops in the evaporator where its low speed and the height of the decontamination column eliminate any possible entrainment of impure water droplets. A pressure transducer, installed in the evaporator, controls the ingress of industrial steam to the heat exchanger, thus ensuring a constant pressure of the pure steam produced. Supply water flow

REDUCTION OF NON-CONDENSABLE GASES (NCG)
Stilmas has developed two alternative solutions to meet the NCG requirements of EN 285.
The first solution consists of an intermediate tank in which the preheated feed water is sprayed by separating the liquid from the gas which is then extracted outside.
This solution can adapt any clean steam generator to allow the NCG content to be achieved.
The Second Solution, Stilmas Gasbuster ® , is integrated into the PSG. The degassing process occurs when the preheated feed water enters the decontamination column and is sprayed by separating the liquid from the gas which is then extracted by a small stream of clean steam.
With both solutions, Stilmas PSG can deliver much lower NCG content than required by international standards.
The system is entirely made of AISI 316L stainless steel. the standard finish of the active surface is smooth and flush with passivation; mechanical or electrochemical polishing can be performed on request.
The heat exchanger is of casing and tube type with double sheet metal execution; the tubes expand on the plates, avoiding any welding for a totally hygienic execution, and a better resistance to expansion efforts.
The design and construction of the decontamination chamber, which is a completely empty column, ensure the best inspection ability. The absence of welds in this area drastically reduces the risk of corrosion, for a very long service life of the equipment.
The overall design of the building, together with the decontamination process described, ensure a very compact design and require extremely limited space for maintenance.
